College athletics

The college pathway, without the hype.

Find the right fit, not just an offer.

College sports can be an incredible opportunity, but not every path fits every athlete. We help families think through academics, recruiting expectations, cost, eligibility, and life on campus before deciding.

What college athletics actually involves

  • Balancing academics and competition within a college program.
  • Practicing, traveling, and competing as part of a structured team.
  • Meeting admission, academic progress, and athletic eligibility requirements.
  • Navigating campus life, independence, and for some athletes, a move far from home.
  • A valuable experience, not a guaranteed route to professional sports.

Is this the right path for you?

It may be a good fit if

  • You care about both academics and your sport.
  • You're prepared to adapt to a new team, schedule, and environment.
  • You and your family understand the tradeoffs and costs.

It may not be the right fit if

  • You see college sports as a guaranteed shortcut to the pros.
  • You're choosing a school only to escape your current situation.
  • The academic and campus environment doesn't fit your needs.

How the JP Method helps

Sixteen criteria help us look beyond stats, considering what coaches may value and what an athlete needs to thrive within a specific program.

What coaches evaluate

A clear player profile: contribution, coachability, adaptability, and performance as the competition gets tougher.

What athletes should evaluate

Workload, depth chart, campus culture, academic demands, financial support, and personal fit. A program can be right for one athlete and wrong for another.

We are not a college recruiting service and do not make admission, scholarship, roster, NIL, or eligibility decisions on behalf of any institution.

The family's role

  • Ask the right questions before committing.
  • Ask the questions a young athlete may feel uncomfortable asking.
  • Support the athlete without becoming an unofficial recruiter.
  • Plan for independence, distance, and the transition to campus life.
